2021 Community Events
Our mission of impacting and changing lives extends beyond the work we do in our credit union branches. We are passionate about helping our community and committed to making Detroit a wonderful place to live and work.
Holiday Giving with The Children's Center
Making holiday wishes come true for teens aging out of foster care
Every year, thousands of young people age out of foster care without a home every year. The Children's Center of Wayne County's Young Adult Self-Sufficiency Program (YASS) provides them with the services they need when they don’t have anywhere else to turn. We are grateful for all our members, team members, and those in the community who helped us raise money to give YASS participants a joyful holiday which they would not otherwise have experienced. Hood Camp
Hood Camp is a two-day outdoor survival camp for urban youth that takes place at Avalon Village in Highland Park, MI. Campers learn life skills ranging from gardening to fire safety, personal finance and how to stop bullying while enjoying crafts, games, songs and cookouts. 1DCU has been a proud sponsor of Hood Camp for 10 years. This summer, our team hosted a personal finance game to help campers learn smart money habits.
Team Enrichment Day
Our first virtual teambuilding day
Our annual Team Enrichment Day was filled with team-building activities, culture & education advancement, and FUN! Just because it's virtual this year did not mean we left out a charitable giving activity, which is an essential tradition of our Team Enrichment Days. This year we made socks for seniors! Each team member received a (contactless) bag of supplies in advance and we helped each other complete the project virtually. It was a great day and a great way to give back.
